Mountain Ki'Rin are a subspecies of  the mythical Chinese unicorn known as the Ki'Rin. Smaller in build than their ancestors, Mountain Ki'Rin spend most of their lives living in high mountainous areas. They are built for the rough mountain terrain and short bursts of speeds. Due to this Mountain Ki'Rin don't fair well in open areas.
There are barely any creatures in existence which Mountain Ki'Rin do fear, but they still prefer to be elusive. It is said that this subspecies of Ki'Rin carry an essence of  their Ancestor's power, although this has never been proven. Granting wishes is something they can not, or will not do.

The basic build of the Mountain Ki'Rin is a 3-5ft tall  cloven hooved equine, with tough inpenetrable scales covering the back of the entire body.  The underbelly is covered with either tough smooth scales, thick scale-sheets, or  fur.  Tails on the Mountain Ki'Rin are always the tradition unicorn type, long and tufted.  Manes  can come in various forms, from the most common horse-like mane, to the more zebra-esque type,  and even the lion-esque presentation.  The type of mane a Mountain Ki'Rin has does not depend on the gender.  Beards are sometimes found on males, but never on females. Horns  are always curved back but can be either thick or thin in width.   Ears are a cross between equine and dragon.

Mountain Ki'Rin form 'herds'  known as Majesties. A Majesty is either made up of  1-2 stallions, and 2-5 mares,  or five pairs.  Since Mountain Ki'Rin are not bias to the type of Majesty they don't look down upon either setup.  Each Mountain Ki'Rin mare can give birth to 2-4 eggs  during each breeding season. These eggs are all speckled white in shell coloring and extremely fragile.  A Ki'Rin mare which has laid the eggs will watch over them until they hatch - her life is put on the back burner, so to speak.  However there have been some cases where the mother abandons the eggs, for some reason or other which really can't be explained.  In this case the eggs usually fall victim to local scavengers,  raised by wild Majesties, or given outer-realm homes.    After a Ki'Rin egg has reached the age of 1 week the mare does not have to continously watch over them, as their shells have hardened to the point where they can only be broken from the inside.  It takes only a week and a half for a Ki'Rin egg to hatch.

After a Mountain Ki'Rin has hatched from it's egg it's called a Hatchling.  While in the Hatchling stage the Mountain Ki"Rin will be pretty light in coloring, to the point where it's scales are almost white. It will also not have it's full mane or tail tuft.  Hatchlings are pretty fragile both emotionally and physically. They require lots of attention.

Reaching adulthood takes two-three weeks. Once adulthood is reached the Mountain Ki'Rin can start up a Majesty, or stay a Lone Ki'Rin.

Mountain Ki'Rin can interbreed with the Ki'Rin subspecies known as the Dragon Tail Ki'Rin,   having descended from simillar ancestry they share a lot of simillarities.  Mountain Ki'Rin/Dragon Tail Ki'Rin crosses are not uncommon at all, but carry different genes then the purebreds do.  No one can really say what a cross will look like for certain, all the more fun.   The two subspecies do not frown upon  mixes, infact they consider eachother to be Kin.

Scale color in Mountain Ki'Rin shows the rarity, and sometimes rank,  of the creature.  Now a white Mountain Ki'rin, or even Dragon Tail Ki'Rin,  are extremely rare to come upon. Although not completely unseen this color is hard to gain. White Ki'Rin carry the genes for every color.
